The term “environmental humanities” is both descriptive and aspirational: it has emerged over the last five years to capture already existing conjunctions across environmental philosophy, environmental history, ecocriticism, cultural geography, cultural anthropology, and political ecology, but it also seeks to integrate debates so far largely shaped by different disciplinary contexts. At KTH, the Environmental Humanities Laboratory (EHL) has organized experimental events that have brought together graduate students from a variety of institutions with members of various interested organizations. These have included several festivals, workshops, and experimental conferences—since a lab is after all an experimental space. Research in the Laboratory combines various strands of the humanities, including anthropological, aesthetic, literary, architectural, spatial, archaeological, technological, etcetera, all informed by historical approaches.
